Todd Thompson has been hired as Chief Information Officer at Starwood Hotels & Resorts. With more than 20 years of technology experience, Mr. Thompson was most recently Chief Information Officer for JetBlue Airlines. He had earlier led consulting practices for SBI.Razorfish and Arthur Anderson Business Consulting, had served as IT Director at Nu Skin.
Richard Barnes and Bob Pojman have joined Wayport, as Vice President and General Manager of Retail and Vice President of Operations respectively.
Mr. Barnes comes to Wayport from Oracle, where he was Group Vice President for the western U.S. commercial region in services sales, business development and product implementation. His 15 years of experience also includes positions with Peoplesoft, Netegrity, and Computer Task Group.
Mr. Pojman was formerly Senior Vice President of Network and Strategic Technology at Open Solutions, Inc. He was earlier Vice President of Operations at NetSolve.
Abhinav (Abhi) Dhar has joined TravelCLICK as Chief Information Officer. Mr. Dhar was previously Applications Chief Technology Officer in the Galileo Americas organization within Travelport; he had earlier served as Cendant Vice President of Travel Distribution Product Delivery and Vice President of the Corporate Strategic Technology Solutions group. He has also held the CTO position with Gullivers Travel/Octopustravel, and has been a principal consultant with Pricewaterhouse Coopers’ Management Consulting unit.
Cem Cetinturk has been appointed TravelCLICK’s regional director for Africa and the Middle East, based in its new offices in Dubai. Mr. Cetinturk was director of sales and marketing for Swissotel Istanbul and regional director of sales management for Swissotel in the Middle East.

Inns Hotels has become SoftBrands’ 1,000th customer for its Medallion PMS, with an order for all nineteen of its hotels in Nunavut & The Northwest Territories. Medallion was first released in 2003; the 1000th Medallion customer was actually the Arctic Lodge situated on the coast of Victoria Island. (,
Marriott International has extended its PMS e-folio service to all guests. The program was launched last year for corporate accounts, later expanded to include Marriott Rewards members. The option to have their folios e-mailed to them automatically after every hotel stay is now available at all Marriott brands in the U.S. and most in Canada. (
Italian hotel chain Starhotels has upgraded all 22 of its properties from Fidelio to MICROS OPERA Enterprise Solution, centrally hosted in the Starhotels headquarters and maintained in house.
Joie de Vivre Hospitality is standardizing on a centrally-hosted version of MICROS’ OPERA Enterprise Solution. All properties will use OPERA Property Management and Customer Information System; selected sites will also use OPERA Sales & Catering.
Wynn Resorts (Macau) has implemented MICROS’ OPERA Property Management, OPERA Gaming integration to its IGT casino system and MICROS’ 9700 Hospitality Management System for its food and beverage operations. The 600-room casino resort offers approximately 220 table games and 380 slot machines, seven restaurants, 26,000 square feet of retail space, a spa, a salon, entertainment lounges and meeting facilities.
PAR Springer-Miller Systems is interfacing its SMS|Host PMS with Amadeus’ Hotel Revenue Management System (formerly Optims). (,
The Wales Hotel in New York City has installed Northwind’s Maestro Enterprise Front Office System, ResEze Internet Booking engine and Maestro Analytics Business Intelligence.
Northwind formally announced its partnership with Jencess Software and Technologies to integrate Jencess’ Golf, Membership Management and POS modules into the Maestro Enterprise Suite. The Jencess applications are currently installed at over 500 resorts and clubs in North America.
Boutique Hotels and Resorts of British Columbia has named Visual One its preferred vendor for PMS, Accounting, and Condo Management systems for its 7 resort properties. The 118-room Hotel Sacher Salzburg and 152-room Hotel Sacher Vienna have contracted for TravelCLICK’s distribution and marketing services, including the iHotelier CRS, iStay online booking engine, GDS marketing, pay-per-click advertising and search engine optimization. (,
Travel management company BCD Travel has selected Farelogix as part of its new technology platform, to enable BCD Travel agents to source travel inventory from a variety of channels, including supplier-direct connections, Global Distribution Systems, private and Internet fare sources. It will also allow BCD Travel to centralize its data sources, faring and shopping, as well as travel policy based on flexible, rules-based criteria such as lowest cost to the supplier (competitive booking source) and best content source according to supplier (e.g. Web site). BCD Travel will also use FLX to monitor and manage contractual commitments made to its customers, the GDSs and suppliers, e.g. to ensure the appropriate contractual GDS bookings are met, or a minimum number of bookings per month are made via a particular source of content.

Conde Nast Traveler magazine’s Web site has launched its Suitcase travel-planning tool to help travelers collect, organize and share travel information. Suitcase is powered by the Kaboodle online service, which collects information from any web page by automatically extracting relevant images and summaries. users’ Suitcase travel collections will be available both to fellow members and to the broader Kaboodle community. Pegasus Solutions is integrating Serenata’s NetHotel CRM module into its RezView CRS, to go live by year-end. The integration will provide RezView users with detailed profile information on guest, company and agent profiles from the NetHotel central profile database, along with stay information for selected profiles. Rezview will forward the CRS reservations to hotel PMSs with all profile details.
Pegasus Solutions has introduced new availability and pricing displays for its HotelFactory central reservation system, including a Calendar View, Table View and Inheritance View. The availability views offer options for managing inventory and monitoring a property’s status with one-page display, color-coded true availability displays, one-click inheritance sourcing for pricing structures and rate values, reservation rankings and detailed restriction displays.
Pegasus Solutions has launched its Web Analytics service, to help hoteliers achieve optimal bookings through an analysis of online traveler activity. Through a relationship with DDSA Partners, Web Analytics will track online revenue from its originating source through the reservation conversion process, analyzing Web activity integrated with revenue data directly from the NetBooker Internet booking engine. Available reports include revenue by geography, revenue by product, revenue by referring Web sites or search engines, revenue by campaign, revenue by DMA, conversion with entry and exit points, conversions by visit depth, new versus repeat buyers and reservations by confirmation number.
Net Trans, which provides commission handling services to more than 5,000 travel agent locations in over 70 countries, has contracted with Pegasus Solutions to improve its commission reconciliation service by centralizing payments and simplifying the overall process.
Preferred Hotel Group (PHG) has renewed its contract for Pegasus’ RezView central reservation system, NetBooker Internet booking engine, voice services and commission processing services for its 350+ hotels.
** has launched its travel search engine in Germany and the USA, offering inventory from over 100 online travel websites and portals including Ebookers, Expedia, SouthWest, HRS, Lufthansa, Travelocity, travelchannel and PriceGrabber. Kinkaa will shortly roll out the service in several European and Asian markets.
Online travel search firm SideStep has acquired hotel reviews and ratings site, and will incorporate its 500,000+ reviews, photos and blogs into SideStep’s real-time online search information.

Serenata has released Version 2.80 of its NetHotel application. Enhancements include redesigned Profile Integrity and Central Profile Management processes, a new reporting module, NH Web Reporter, to replace NetHotel Reporter and NetHotel Info, faster data extraction and transfer to the data warehouse, and improved user workflow. NH Web Reporter, based on Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services, allows all Intranet users of a hotel chain to access its reporting tools, including new drill-down functionality in strategic places and simpler data export functions.
VRX Studios launched its “Always Fresh” function that date stamps all hotel photos, virtual tours and interactive maps, to let consumers can see when these images were certified by the hotels as being accurate and up-to-date.

WORLDHOTELS has implemented Leonardo Media’s Digital Asset Management Platform to centralize rich media content production, ownership, management and distribution.
Leonardo has added eBooks to its online brochure range, featuring virtual tours, moving images and sound clips, plus auto-update and page zoom functionality. Two versions are available:
– Template eBook, for large hotel/travel groups which mandate design/collateral integrity across all brands, regions and groups.

BDL Management is installing Newmarket’s Delphi Multi-Property Edition sales and catering system at four InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) properties in the United Kingdom. The properties are the Crowne Plaza London Docklands, the Crowne Plaza Marlow, the Holiday Inn London Heathrow, and the proposed Holiday Inn London Chessington, which is due to open early summer 2007.
Twickenham Experience has contracted with Newmarket International to upgrade Twickenham Stadium to the Delphi Sales and Catering system from its current CCBreeze application. Twickenham, near London, is the home of the England rugby team, current World Champions. The Stadium’s South Stand is currently being re-developed; when it re-opens in late 2007, it will increase the number of available stadium hospitality packages to 4800 and provide an additional 5000 square meters of function space.
Newmarket International has received two awards for Achievement in Customer Excellence (ACE) from CustomerSat, in the areas of customer support and project management. The CustomerSat ACE awards recognize outstanding achievement in customer satisfaction, based on customer surveys over the course of a year. Newmarket was the only hospitality technology provider to be honored, and one of only two companies to achieve recognition in multiple segments.

Confabb has launched its centralized conference information service, providing a range of information from speaker and event reviews to after-the-event photos through integration with Flickr. At launch the site included data on over 16,000 conferences; services include both standard categories and tags, integration of off-site resources, reputation management, user watch pages to track a number of events, a badge generator to post conference logos on your blog and iCal export of your conference list. Planned new features include integration with more calendar programs, video and podcast listings, web based chat rooms per conference and per session and both native and integrated RSVP capabilities.

PAR Technology Corp has acquired substantially all of the assets of SIVA Corp. Existing users of SIVA’s Web-based point-of-sale, kitchen, back office and operations intelligence applications include Darden Restaurants (owners of the Red Lobster and Olive Garden chains), Restaurants Unlimited, Inc., Luby’s and Legal Sea Foods. PAR will integrate its existing restaurant software operations into the SIVA organization to form a standalone software solutions division, with SIVA’s R&D operation as the core. (
The Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs has selected MICROS 9700 HMS and Self-Service Kiosks for its new casino in Wilkes-Barre, PA. The first phase of the project includes 41 MICROS workstations, 25 Mobile MICROS handheld terminals and 6 self-service kiosks. (,
The Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites in Columbus, Ohio (including the Fort Rapids Indoor Waterpark) has implemented InfoGenesis POS systems integrated with Guest Technologies’ reusable RFID bracelets. The bracelets help locate party members throughout the park, and allow them buy food and other items at any POS outlet. The resort includes a 60,000-square-foot waterpark with food and arcade games, 278 guest rooms, 60 villa suites, a gift shop and several restaurants. The systems were integrated using Microsoft’s BizTalk Server 2004. (,
Chuy’s Comida Deluxe, Inc. has completed its roll-out of Hospitality Solutions International (HSI) Profit Series POS at 11 locations in Texas, including the Chuy’s, Hula Hut, Shady Grove, and Lucy’s Boatyard concepts.
HSI has released Version 7.06 of its Profit Series POS. Enhancements include a redesigned user interface, improvements to the web order interface and break law compliance features, a new optional identification number prompt for payments (e.g. driver’s license number), suggested tips on guest checks, a new report to track sales of selected items for a period, and support for IP printing through Epson printers.
Ham’s Restaurants has implemented Capton’s Beverage Tracker at its casual dining restaurants in Richmond, Charlotte and High Point. The system was sold and installed by Southeast POS, a value-added reseller of Capton. (

LodgeNet Entertainment Corp has acquired high-speed Internet access provider StayOnline. Upon completion of the transaction in the first quarter of 2007, LodgeNet will provide Internet access services to more than 175,000 hotel rooms nationwide, increasing its current base five fold.
Petters Hospitality and Entertainment Group has adopted Pro:Idiom content security technology for its Polaroid brand high-definition (HD) displays to allow them to be used with LodgeNet’s SIGNETURE high-definition free-to-guest (FTG) and video-on-demand (VOD) services.
Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has implemented upgraded in-room entertainment at its newly renovated 503-room flagship property in Hong Kong, integrating an enhanced version of KoolConnect Technologies’ Intrigue with a luxury home theater system from Bang & Olufsen (B&O). Enhancements include IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) channels with a higher quality FTG (Free-to-Guest) picture, PVR (Personal Video Recorder) to allow guests and staff to record programs and on-site events, nearly 10,000 audio stations from around the world and several thousand internet video streams. KoolConnect and B&O jointly developed a single remote control for all media devices in the room. (,
iBAHN has launched its SmartLink, an uninterruptible high-speed Internet access service. SmartLink includes an automatic back-up circuit that activates immediately if the primary system is disrupted or fails.
iBAHN announced its Airline PC, a limited purpose version of its Lobby PC designed to print boarding passes in a hotel lobby. This function has also been added to its existing Lobby PC models.
Dometic Corp has released its new HiPromatic refreshment center, using ZigBee wireless communications and a personal digital assistant (PDA) unit to streamline the refill process. It allows the hotel to set individual temperatures for each unit, provides individual programming of the private guest section and sends email notification of alarms for proactive maintenance. (
TeleAdapt has added Byrne Electrical Specialists’ range of Power and Data Centers to its PowerHub line of guestroom power equipment. (,
Minibar Systems has released its Smartcube range of units with a choice of silent absorption, compressor and Peltier cooling systems, glass door designs with product sensors, and simple re-configuration options. Exterior and interior lighting packages use blue and white crystal LEDs, and the unit can be upgraded quickly from honor bar or semi-automated to fully automated while in daily operation. Automatic locking and unlocking is controlled by the hotel’s PMS system, eliminating the need for keys. (
